Bob Lawless is President Emeritus of the University of Tulsa, having served eight years following seven years of service as President and Chief Executive Officer of both Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from 1989-1996. He joined Academic Search as a Senior Consultant and has assisted a diverse group of universities in selecting individuals for a variety of leadership positions. He has participated in searches for Chancellors of university systems, presidents of individual universities, provosts, vice presidents and deans. He has assisted large public research universities, public and private institutions as well as Colleges of Design and Technical Universities.

Prior to his presidential appointments, Dr. Lawless served in a variety of academic and business positions. He was a faculty member at Texas A&M, the University of Houston and Texas Tech. He was Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer and then Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for Southwest Airlines .He also was a research technician and instrumentation engineer for the Monsanto Company.

Bob Lawless was actively involved in leadership positions with the NCAA during his fifteen years of university presidencies. He served on the President’s Commission, the Division I Board of Directors and as member, then Chair of the Executive Committee. He has also been engaged with service on Boards of corporations and community non-profits.

Dr. Lawless holds an Associate Degree from Lee College, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from Texas A&M University.
