Marie V. McDemmond is president emeritus of Norfolk State University, Virginia where she was president from 1997 to 2006. She provides consulting services in financial management to colleges and universities and has led seminars for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Institute, Bryn Mawr College, Wellesley College, and Hampton University leadership programs. Dr. McDemmond has expertise in historically black college and universities and other minority-serving colleges and universities and is a frequent speaker on issues relevant to these institutions. She has been actively involved in ACE and statewide women’s networks, lecturing on management issues affecting women leaders. Earlier, Dr. McDemmond served as the CFO/COO of Florida Atlantic University and held senior financial management positions at four other universities. She received her bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and her master’s degree from the University of New Orleans, did additional graduate work in public finance and management at the State University of New York at Albany, and received her doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is the recipient of honorary doctorates from Norfolk State University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Susquehanna University.
