Frank Pogue, Senior Consultant of counsel at Academic Search, has been named one of the top African-American presidents at a college or university in the United States. Late last week the Atlanta Post announced its top 10 African-American university and college presidents. Dr. Pogue, President of Grambling State, ranked ninth on the list of presidents.
Dr. Pogue was appointed as the eighth president of Grambling State University in June 2010, after serving for seven months as interim president. He has had a long and distinguished 47-year career in higher education. When he was selected as president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1996, he became the first African-American to serve as president of a historically white university in Pennsylvania. When he retired from Edinboro in 2007, the university paid tribute to his extraordinary leadership by naming its newly constructed student center in his honor. His outstanding accomplishments also earned him the title of president emeritus of Edinboro University. After his retirement from Edinboro, Dr. Pogue joined Academic Search as a Senior Consultant. He then served as interim president of Chicago State University. In May he was awarded the doctor of humane letters degree from the State University of New York Oswego.
