Bill Franklin joined Academic Search in July, 2005, after more than 30 years of leadership experience in higher education. His administrative experience includes service as a department chair, college dean, vice president for academic affairs, and the presidencies of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Lamar University-Beaumont, and the Texas International Education Consortium. He currently chairs the Board of Trustees of Schreiner University, a private liberal arts university. He is a well-published scholar with professorial experience at both major research and regional comprehensive universities.

Franklin’s leadership in professional associations includes service as President of the Texas Academy of Science, where he was elected a Fellow; Chair of the Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors of Texas; President of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities; Commissioner and then Chair of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; President-elect of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges and Universities.

While an educator by profession, Franklin has always been active in community and civic leadership activities, including service as President of the Kingsville, Texas Chamber of Commerce; President of the Beaumont, Texas Chamber of Commerce; Board of Trustees of Southeast Texas, Inc.; Advisory Board, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital; President of the Board of Directors of the Texas Energy Museum; and Board of Directors of Texas Partners of the Americas.

Franklin has consulted, given major addresses, and conducted workshops throughout the United States and in more than twenty countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Vietnam, Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, Canada, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Romania.

Franklin’s experience as a search consultant includes presidential, vice presidential, and dean searches in both public and private universities, both domestic and international.

Dr. Franklin graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology (social psychology, medical sociology, and statistics), and completed post-graduate work at the University of Michigan and Harvard University.
